20 years have passed since the launch of the Cassini-Huygens flagship robotic spacecraft at Cape Canaveral, and 13 years since Cassini inserted into orbit at Saturn for one of the most ambitious unmanned space missions of our time.

Enceladus, an unassuming, icy moon, surprised researchers. A liquid body of water resides beneath the icy crust, ejected into space by thermal vents at the surface. The water sampled from the sub-glacial ocean contains organic chemicals, indicating that Enceladus may be capable of supporting life.

In September 2017, this 20-year mission will come to a close as Cassini burns up during a controlled descent into Saturn’s atmosphere. A towering, yet humbling human achievement, which revealed that the potential ingredients for life might be found in the most unlikely place imaginable.

The Cassini-Huygens mission inspired the music on Enceladus, and I hope it, in turn, inspires those who take the time to listen
